In the higher, rougher hills of the Langhe in Italy, where forests and vineyards alternate, one of Piedmont's secrets emerges: Alta Langa DOCG. These are sparkling wines that are the Champagne of Italy. Made with attention, precision, and based on the right terroir.

Alta Langa is made according to the traditional method (just like Champagne), exclusively in good vintage years and always as a vintage wine (meaning the grapes come from the same vintage year). The grapes used are Pinot Nero and Chardonnay, and these grow on chalky hills at an altitude of 700 meters, which ensures freshness, tension, and elegance.

At Josetta Saffirio, Alta Langa perfectly aligns with the philosophy of Sara Vezza, the winemaker: artisanal work, with respect for nature and origin. The grapes are hand-picked, gently pressed, and first ferment in tanks. This is followed by a second fermentation in the bottle, with an aging of 30 to 40 months on the lees, which gives this wine its refined mousse and complex character.

What you then see in your glass is a bright straw-yellow color with a fine, persistent mousse. The aroma reveals notes of citrus, white peach, and subtle brioche. On the palate, it is crisp and refined, with fresh acidity, delicate ripeness, and a long, elegant finish.

We are very happy with this, because the Alta Langa shows a completely different side of Piedmont: mineral, cool, and surprisingly French in style, but with an Italian touch. This is not an aperitif bubble "on the side", but a high-quality, gastronomic sparkling wine that performs excellently at the table, for example with raw fish, oysters, light starters, or charcuterie.
