About us

We are Manuel and Ilona, the founders of Wijnatelier Amsterdam. What started as a shared passion for wine, grew into a hobby to which we increasingly devoted our attention and pleasure.

From the beginning, wine has played a special role in our travels. When we met in 2010, we visited the Stellenbosch wineries in South Africa together. During our 15-month world trip in 2013 and 2014, we then discovered wine regions all over the world, and even now, a visit to local winemakers is a regular part of our trips, holidays and travels. Meanwhile, our two children simply come along for the adventure.

For Manuel, wine was literally instilled in him from an early age. His father worked his entire life in the beverage and wine industry and managed to convey his enthusiasm for fine wines early on. Ilona further delved into the wine world by completing the SDEN 2 and SDEN 3 courses in 2018 and 2020.

But ultimately, for us, it's not about complicated wine terms or prestigious labels. We get the most pleasure from discovering special, often undiscovered wineries. Places where passionate makers lovingly talk about their wine, their family history, and their vision. It is precisely these authentic stories behind the bottle that make wine so special to us.
